Doctors credit vaccinations, antibody treatments for drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations

October 26, 2021 | For the first time since Aug. 1, fewer than 1,500 people were being treated for COVID-19 in North Carolina hospitals on Tuesday. While COVID-19 hospitalizations have dropped by 62 percent statewide in the last eight weeks, Triangle hospitals have seen an ever larger decline. Across WakeMed, Duke University Health System and UNC Health hospitals, the number of COVID-19 patients has fallen by two-thirds since the end of August, from 785 to 269.

Chambers Biomedical Biotechnology Research Institute at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), and the Departments of Biostatistics and of Health Behavior at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill).

October 22, 2021 | North Carolina health officials are using an International soccer match in Charlotte to reach out to the Hispanic and LatinX communities about COVID-19 vaccinations. Mexico and Ecuador will take to the pitch on Oct. 27, at Bank of America Stadium, in Charlotte. In an effort to promote COVID-19 vaccination among the Hispanic and Latinx community, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is partnering with multiple organizations to inform soccer fans on the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination.

October 15, 2021 | The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told states to prepare for an entirely new population of people to be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. An FDA panel is set to discuss Pfizer’s data on the clinical trials in kids ages 5 to 11 on Oct. 26. If the FDA and CDC give it the green light, there could be a huge increase in demand for shots.
