About

NFL Alumni Health Mission

Improve the health of NFL Alumni members and mobilize them as beacons of trust and inspiration to elevate the health of our communities.

Achieving Our Purpose

NFL Alumni Health (NFLAH) achieves its purpose by first offering alumni access to curated, high-quality healthcare resources, expanding their access to unique medical research initiatives, networking members on similar medical journeys and building their healthcare knowledge with evidence-based tools. In parallel, NFLAH also empowers alumni to become active, vocal members of the broader healthcare community to help influence community health initiatives. By participating in the national NFLAH ‘Huddle for Health’ campaigns and the ‘Locker Room’ community engagement forums, alumni can serve as powerful, informative spokesmen for healthcare initiatives aiming to improve public health.

Our History

The NFL Alumni Association (NFL Alumni) was founded in 1967 and is the oldest and most recognizable national organization of retired professional athletes. NFL Alumni consists of former NFL players, coaches, executives, spouses, and cheerleaders. Members of the public are also able to join NFL Alumni as Associate Members.

NFL Alumni Health is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NFL Alumni. Initiated in 2018, the purpose of NFLAH is two-fold:

  • Improve NFL alumni access to healthcare and wellness services
  • Empower NFL alumni to become beacons of trust and inspiration within their communities to improve healthcare outcomes

Brad Edwards

Brad Edwards assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of NFL Alumni in October of 2022 and was recently appointed to the NFL Player Care Foundation board of directors. Edwards enjoyed a nine-year NFL career (1988-1996) as a free safety, including a Super Bowl Championship with the then Washington Redskins where he was voted by NFL.com (2016) as recording the #36 best individual performance in Super Bowl history. Research Philosophy

NFL Alumni Health (NFLAH), a subsidiary of the NFL Alumni Association, is dedicated to supporting former professional football players through accessible education, resources, community programs, and partnerships focused on long-term physical and mental well-being.

We are proud of our collaborations with leading researchers and organizations studying the health impacts of a career in professional football. These partnerships help deliver player-centered insights—on topics such as chronic pain management, mobility, joint health, cardiovascular resilience, pro-active brain health, sleep, and family wellness—directly to alumni in practical, actionable ways.

NFLAH operates independently and does not take positions on, endorse, or comment on the specific findings of any individual research studies or publications.

We encourage current and former players to utilize the robust resources provided by the NFL and NFLPA to identify and seek treatment when concerned about their health, including:

  •   NFL Life Line: 800-506-0078 (confidential 24/7 support)
  •   NFL Total Wellness resources
  •   Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 (24/7)

Together, as a community built on the strength of the game and the resilience of its players, we stand ready to support one another—because every legacy deserves to thrive, and every voice matters.
