March 9, 2022 | Two years ago today, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Louisiana. Shortly after, the state saw its first surge largely linked to Mardi Gras. Since then, the state has seen five surges, reported more than 1.2 million cases and more than 18,000 deaths. March 4, 2022 | Although many Louisiana residents have decided to roll up their sleeves for a COVID vaccine, enthusiasm seems to have waned when it comes to signing up for booster shots. To make booster shots more accessible to Black New Orleanians, a “Bring Back Louisiana Booster Event” will be held Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at L.B. Landry High School, located at 1200 LB Landry Avenue in New Orleans.

February 22, 2022 | On Sunday, Dec. 5, the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed the first official case of the omicron COVID-19 variant in Louisiana. By early January of 2022, Louisiana had surpassed the previous high peak of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020. By Jan. 13, the pandemic hit its highest daily rate yet, 12,691 cases. This daily rate is two times higher than the previous highest daily case rate which was reached in mid-August of 2021.
