November 5, 2021 | The City of Detroit will begin providing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5-11 on Monday, November 8th, 2021, Mayor Mike Duggan announced today. Dosing for children ages 5-11 will be one-third that of adults (10 micrograms vs. 30 micrograms), delivered in a two-dose series three weeks apart. November 3, 2021 | Families in Metro Detroit are showing up for children to get the COVID-19 vaccine after the CDC recommended that children ages 5-11 get vaccinated. Health officials have said the shots for kids is a major breakthrough. The federal government has made a promise to provide enough vaccine to protect the nation’s kids who are in that age group. The vaccine is one-third the dose given to older children and adults. It’s also administered with kid-sized needles. It requires two doses, three weeks apart. A child will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose.
October 21, 2021 | Mercy Health Muskegon officials are urging residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine to ease the strained hospital. Dr. Justin Grill, chief medical officer for Mercy Health Muskegon, said COVID-19 admissions in October were higher than the first surge of the pandemic. “It is important to know that nearly all of our ICU patients are unvaccinated and essentially all of the deaths at our hospital had been in the unvaccinated population,” Grill said during an Oct. 20 press briefing.
October 18, 2021 | The second and third round of winners of Eastern Michigan University’s “Get the Vax to Win” program was announced Monday. The program offers cash and prize incentives to EMU students and faculty who received and verified their full COVID-19 vaccinations. EMU officials announced the first set of winners in early September.
