Heartflow

You studied film your entire career to stay one step ahead of the opponent. Heartflow is using the same mindset — only now, the opponent is heart disease.

Heart disease remains the #1 cause of death worldwide and is often called the “silent killer” because it can progress for years without clear symptoms. For former professional football players, the stakes are even higher: up to 1 in 3 die from heart disease, compared to 1 in 5 in the general population. We know the risk is elevated — but we still don’t fully understand why. That’s what the GAMEFILM® Registry is designed to change.

GAMEFILM

The registry is led by Heartflow CEO John Farquhar — an NFL Alum who understands firsthand the physical demands and long-term risks of the game — and supported by James Kovach, MD, NFL Alumni Health Medical Advisor, Emeritus, and a former NFL linebacker. This is a study built with former players in mind, not adapted from the general population.

What GAMEFILM® Does

GAMEFILM® uses Heartflow’s first-of-its-kind, AI-powered imaging to give former athletes a clearer, more personalized analysis of their heart health than traditional tests can provide. This is not a routine screening — its precision insight tailored to the unique cardiovascular challenges created by years of high-impact, elite play.

The noninvasive Heartflow Analysis can:

  • Identify multiple types of plaque in your coronary arteries — including the high-risk types most likely to trigger a cardiac event.
  • Measure how well blood is flowing to your heart.
  • Reveal hidden risk long before symptoms appear — when intervention is most effective.

What to Expect

The noninvasive Heartflow Analysis is performed in an outpatient setting using a standard coronary CT scan and typically takes less than an hour, making it a convenient way to gain advanced insight into your heart health.

Why This Matters Now

Many athletes don’t experience warning signs until disease is advanced. Delayed diagnosis increases the risk of heart attack or sudden cardiac events.

The GAMEFILM® Registry aims to detect disease earlier, improve care standards, and build stronger cardiovascular guidelines that protect athletes now and for generations to come. But that progress only happens if former players participate.

The registry is open to former NFL, NBA, and NHL players — as well as their families and the broader football community. If you’ve ever suited up, or supported someone who did, this is your chance to get ahead of heart disease with insights designed specifically for you. And importantly, the Heartflow Analysis and the associated physician consultations are provided at no cost to participants.

If you’ve never had advanced heart imaging, this is your moment.
